Chitosan–Pectin Composite Active Films

Source: Scientific Reports · 2026

A composite film of chitosan and pectin with a plant-derived active fraction showed antioxidant and antimicrobial activity and soil-compost degradability in laboratory tests.

Key findings

  • The film showed DPPH-radical scavenging activity and inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli (laboratory conditions).
  • Water-vapour transmission and soil-compost degradation were characterised; fresh-cut apple pieces were kept for seven days in a lab-scale preservation test.
  • This is an external laboratory result — not verified by Condeboo, and not a food-contact compliance claim.

What this means for your formulation

Active packaging is a fast-moving research front. We track it because pectin's film-forming ability is part of its long-term application potential beyond the jar and the bottle.

This page summarises external scientific publications for professional education. Values are laboratory results under study-specific conditions — they are not Condeboo product specifications, dosage recommendations or health claims. For commercial grades and dosages, request a TDS and application support.
